Samanoo (samanu) is the Persian sprouted-wheat pudding: a thick, sweet, caramel-brown paste slow-cooked for Nowruz, the Persian New Year. It is often sold in English as a “wheat germ dessert”, but it is made from germinated (sprouted) wheat, not the wheat germ sold in jars.

One of the symbolic Haft-Sin items on the Nowruz table, samanoo represents affluence and fertility in Persian culture. Serve it by the spoonful, with bread, or set a small bowl on the haft-sin.
